A pickup, train accident happened just west of Devils Lake Monday morning.

First responders were called to the scene at approximately 6:45 a.m. where the west-bound Amtrak collided with a Ford pickup truck at mile marker 261 on U.S. Highway Two.

Those present at the accident reported that two individuals,  Allan Mosbaek, 67, of Devils Lake, N.D., and Rick Weed, 62, of Devils Lake, were transported by ambulance to St. Alexius Devils Lake Hospital and later to a Grand Forks hospital for medical treatment.

Later investigators from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Road and the North Dakota Highway Patrol were investigating the details of the crash. 

According to the report from Sgt. Joe Knowski released by the NDHP the Ford turned off U.S. Highway 2 to travel north on 75th Ave. NE. The westbound Amtrak struck the pickup in the rear passenger side at the intersection. The Ford was torn in half and came to rest north of the tracks in the ditch. Both the driver and passenger suffered injuries.
