It wasn’t a warm welcome home for the Devils Lake legion baseball team. The Storm began their six home doubleheader stretch Monday against the Fargo Jets, losing 14-3 and 8-6.
A slow start in Game 1 led to a 7-0 deficit after three innings. The bats did get going at the end of the game, though.
Lance Anderson put the ball in play to score Landyn Swenson for the Storm’s first run in the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Anderson knocked in two more runs with a single, scoring Parker Schmid and Swenson.
The Jets were in control the entire time, however, and cruised to a 14-3 win.
In Game 2, DL used its late Game 1 momentum to carry over. The Storm scored three runs in the first three innings when Anderson’s single scored Ryan Haahr in the first inning and Swenson and Haahr scored again the third.
But a big four-run second inning put the Jets in command of the game. Fargo added runs in the fourth and fifth innings while Noah Widmer’s fifth-inning single scored Swenson to make it 7-4.
The late-game rally fell short, though. The Storm scored two more runs in the final two innings, but the Jets tallied one for the 8-6 win.
DL is now 5-7 overall and plays Wahpeton at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader.
