The Devils Lake High School JROTC invites the community to join them as they attempt to make history on Saturday.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the JROTC and ROTC programs, the local batallion is hosting a 5K Fun Run in the hopes of breaking a world record for the most people participating at one time in a 5K.

That’s pretty ambitious for Devils Lake, North Dakota alone, but if all the JROTC and ROTC members around the country do it all together, they just might accomplish it.
That’s the plan.

The Fun Run/Walk starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, according to Jaydon Grafsgaard, who’s in his third year with JROTC.
The cost for each participant is $30 and that includes a t-shirt. If there is money left over from the purchase of t-shirts, Grafsgaard says the money is going to be donated to the Hope Center.

The Fun Run/Walk starts in Ruger Park, taking the Ruger Park walking path to the Devils Lake Cemetery, turning right on 14th to Walnut, then turning again heading north in front of Prairie View Elementary School to 7th Street and Mercy Hospital and then back to Ruger Park.

Grafsgaard figures with their batallion and supporters there should be 80 to 100 local participants on Saturday, maybe more if the public joins them.
