April 18-22 is "Traffic Safety Week" at Devils Lake High School, which reminds students to make good decisions with respect to both drinking and texting while driving, especially during prom season.

Visiting the school to make a presentation was North Dakota native Kat Perkins, who appeared on the sixth season of NBC's 'The Voice' and finished as one of the top five contestants.

Though Perkins sang two of her songs to the assembled students, she delivered a message of responsibility, pointing out the difference between fearlessness and irresponsible behavior.

However, instead of lecturing the group, she revealed her struggles with fear by detailing her experiences as a contestant on 'The Voice' and explaining how she overcame her fear of performing.

The singer, who Rolling Stone magazine called a "powerhouse," belted her original song 'Fearless' to the group during the hourlong assembly, while taking plenty of time afterward to take pictures and sign autographs with students.
