Mark Olson and Mike Kuntz have been friends since they were kids. “I’ve known him my whole life,” Olson says. The two share an interest, some might call an obsession, with snowmobiles.
Last year the two friends took their interest to a new level and put together the first Vintage Snowmobile Ride and Show at Ackerman Acres.

It was a real success, accordding to Olson. They had 75 entries and a near-perfect day.
So they are going to do it again this year. The second annual Vintage Snowmobile Ride and Show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Ackerman Acres - located on the east shore of Devils Lake.

This year they’re expecting over 100 entries.
“Vintage snowmobiles have really been gaining in popularity, so I expect it to grow from last year to this, maybe even as many as 125 entries,” Olson said.
There will be door prizes, raffles and prizes for several categories:
First, second and third will be awarded in original and restored classes. There will be a People’s Choice award, one for the best Rat Sled and this year they have added the award for the ugliest Ugly Duckling.

There are five classes:
•1967 and older
•1968 - 1971
•1972 - 1975
•1976 - 1980
•1981 - 1990
There is a $10 entrance fee per class.

The ride starts at 11 a.m. at Ackermans Acres where they have mapped out a trail to Proz Lakeside Restaurant at the Cove and then from the Cove to the Razors Edge Bar. The trail ride is open to all sleds. Both the Cove and Razor’s Edge Bar will be serving chili to warm up riders. Plus Ty’s Lodge at Ackermans Acres will be offering their full menu and serving their special sloppy joes for sale.
There is no charge to come and view the sleds on display or to visit with collectors.
