Fourth graders took turns grinding wheat into flour that is used to make bread.

150 Fourth Graders from Ramsey County attended “Experience Agriculture: Field to Fork” on April 12 in Devils Lake! NDSU Extension – Ramsey County organized 8 local and regional producers representing their area of specialty, as well as students from the Lake Region State College Precision Agriculture program. Students visited 7 booths to learn about beef/pork, oils, grains, Agricultural careers, dairy, edible beans, and honey/pollinators. At the end of their session, students were given a nutritious sub sandwich, provided by Ramsey County Farmers Union, made from most of the ingredients they learned about at the booths. For dessert, students got a delicious Black Bean Brownie made from black beans! They also left with numerous educational materials donated by North Dakota Wheat Commission, Midwest Dairy Council, North Dakota Beef Commission, North Dakota Soybean Council, North Dakota Corn Utilization Council, and North Dakota Farm Bureau. We want to thank our amazing presenters Dan Plemel, Paul Becker, Cass Brekhus, Bryston Berg, Brett Buchmeier, Nick Stromme with Stromme Honey, Kim Engstrom with Engstrom Bean & Seed, Piet Van Bedaf with VanBedaf Dairy and Lake Region State College Precision Ag students. We also want to thank the Ramsey County Fair Board as our general sponsor. Students left with a wealth of knowledge on how our food gets from the field to our fork at the table!
