The regular meeting of the Ramsey County Commission took place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18 in the Courthouse. In attendance were commissioners Paul Wilhelmi, Ed Brown, Bill Hodous, Blaine Volk and Auditor Kandy Christopherson. Commissioner Jeff Frith was not present for the meeting.
Following the call to order and Pledge of Allegiance, the commission voted to approve the minutes of all three of the last meetings held, including special budget meetings. Nothing was added to this meeting’s agenda, so that was approved as is.
Brady Ash from Forward Devils Lake stepped up to the podium to clarify his 2027 Budget and Fund Request. He had Sandy from North Central Planning with him to help answer the commissioners’ questions should they have any further concerns.
The concern was that funding for the mobile education unit was budgeted on a 2-year basis, for 2026 and 2027.
Jason Kraft, Highway Department, had a list of orders he wanted to place and quotes for work needing to be done in the county. He ended his presentation informiing the commissioners that the last big project, five culverts slated for the Edmore area would be coming up soon. Concern continues regarding the road beds and road stability, “we might need to keep an eye on this fall once harvest starts and those heavy trucks are out there on the county’s roads.” It was suggested that perhaps a re-do might be down the road for some of the spots of greatest concern, even though in some spots the water levels have gone down three to six inches.
Steven Zimmer, a consultant from Intelliplaz, spoke at length about zoning ordinances for the county. He answered the commissioners’ questions and when the issue came to a vote, it was passed unanimously to approve the zoning ordinances.
A request for funds from Red River was denied.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Ramsey County Commission will take place at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.
