The regular meeting of the Devils Lake Public School Board took place on Monday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Sports Center with all members in attendance including President Cory Meyer, Vice President Jason Hodous, and members Emily Foss, Sheri Olson and Andrew Sogge. Also present were Superintendent Ned Clooten and Business Maanger Melissa Haahr.
Following the Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance they approved the agenda for the meeting.
First on the agenda were Student Outcome Goals with Clooten leading the discussion about the Superintendent Guardrails 1.1 and 2.2 (Teacher Vacancies and ADA). Although they hadn’t entirely met their goals, Clooten was optimistic because they saw some significant changes, especially in the secondary school students’ attendance. The ELA and Math results were delayed and not available yet, as of this meeting. However, of the 13 grades evaluated, 11 grades showed increase with only a couple that didn’t. At one point Clooten said, “Kudos to CMS for their increased attendance numbers! Up a full percentage point.”
Clooten was also happy about the fewer vacancies they would be starting the new school year with, only three and a half vacancies this year, we are 98% filled, he pointed out.
The Community Speakers Agenda Item, Cory Meyer read the policy aloud. There was no one present to speak.
The Consent Agenda included 12 items of interest including: approving minutes from the July 27, 2026 meeting, Financial Report from July 2026, payment of bills, approvals of Personnel Changes and Tuition Waivers. All items were ultimately approved.
There were no items for Discussion and Possible Action on the agenda.
Reports and Recognition – For Information Only – Superintendent’s Report and Time Tracker for the July 27 Meeting. Clooten pointed out the early enrollment numbers of 1,801 and the great successes of the Open Gym and the Summer Food Program.
The next regular meeting of the Board will be Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. Following that meeting there will be a Notice to District Taxpayers meeting at 6 p.m.
