National Farmers Market Week was August 2-8, 2026, calling on Americans to make the week a nationwide celebration by visiting and supporting their local farmers markets, according to a press release from the USDA.
Observed annually during the first full week of August, National Farmers Market Week recognizes the important role farmers markets play in strengthening rural communities, creating new market opportunities for producers, and connecting consumers with fresh, American-grown food.
Here in Devils Lake, every Saturday through the beginning of October there is a Farmers Market in Roosevelt Park from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. They call it “Market in the Park.” Set up takes place under the large picnic shelter and the area adjacent to it.
At the Market in the Park on August 8 Cameron Sutphin from Valley City performed country music and guitar playing for shoppers as they shopped for homegrown lettuces, beets, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers and green beans, just to name a few of the produce items fresh from local gardens. You will find home and commercially baked breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, cheesecakes there, too.
Booths with arts and crafts will also be found under the shelter selling kitchen items, like embroidered dish towels and hand-crocheted dishcloths, a variety of purses and handbags locally designed and made for your shopping ease, artists share their paintings and carvings, too.
Jams, jellies, pies, bagels and too many other homemade or homegrown items to name are also available for sale at the Devils Lake Market in the Park.
