The Paul Hoghaug Scholarship Trust was established by Fred and Vivian Hoghaug in memory of their son Paul Hoghaug. A committee consisting of a Counselor/Disabilities Coordinator from Lake Region State College, Principal of Devils Lake High School and the Senior Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, N.D. select the recipients. The trust is administered by the Trust Department at First United Bank in Devils Lake, N.D.
Three students were awarded this year in the amount of $1,750.00 each to be used at the college of their choice. Scholarships totaling $181,313.00 have been awarded to 240 deserving students in the Lake Region area since the first scholarship was awarded in 1962.
The recipients are listed along with a short description of their school activities and honors.
Sean P.W. Freund – North Star High School. School activities and honors: Baseball, State Track qualifier in 2024 and 2026. Captain of Football team, All Region Honorable Mention for Football, State National Honor Society Representative, Treasurer of FCCLA, National Honor Society, President of SADD, Drama, Band, Choir, Peer Tutoring, Student Council, Salutatorian, Northern Plains Electric Cooperative essay winner, and North Star Europe Music Trip Nominee.
Interests: He was involved in creating a service project called “Meals on Wheels” through the National Honor Society, helps with the local food pantry, annual Fall Festival, School Carnival, and Color Run. He also helps the elderly in the community by shoveling snow when needed, among other activities.
College plans: Plans to attend Bismarck State College for two years and then transfer to a university to obtain an engineering degree.

Aubrie Lebrun – Devils Lake High School. School activities and honors: North Dakota 2026 Academic All State Silver Team, Devils Lake High School 2025-2026 Science Student of the Year, Devils Lake High School Student of the Month in May 2026, Cross Country, Track and Devils Lake Dazzlers Dance Team.
Interests: She is involved in the Ramsey County 4-H and is an altar server at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake.
College Plans: Attend Lake Region State College for Businaess Administration.

Brandi Schock – Dakota Prairie High School. Activities and Honors: National Honor Society, A-Honor roll, Valedictorian, Student of Year, Volleyball Charger of the Year, Music Department Director’s award and Outstanding Alto member, Volleyball, Softball, Trap Shooting, Skeet, Five Stand, Student Council, FCCLA, SOS, Yearbook, Esports, Science Bowl and Olympiad, Academic Challenge.
Interests: She teaches Sunday School, is a member of Holiday Community Choir and is a Youth Sports Camp Counselor.
College Plans: Attend University of North Dakota to study Physical Therapy.
