FORT TOTTEN, N.D. – On Wednesday, July 22 at approximately 6:40 p.m., Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) law enforcement officers from the Fort Totten Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 57 & Hwy 281, Oberon, N.D., located on the Spirit Lake Reservation near Four Winds Community High School.
Upon arrival, BIA officers began an on-scene investigation. The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) confirmed that they provided assistance at the scene, and that the vehicles involved in the crash were a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2022 Ram 1500. A 20-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. A 46-year-old male and 16-year-old male were both reported to have serious injuries related to the accident, while a 12-year-old male sustained only minor injuries.
Officers provided immediate medical assistance to those injured until emergency medical technicians arrived and transported the individuals to the nearest hospital for further care.
BIA law enforcement is investigating the accident and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and NDHP also assisted with the investigation.
The case remains open and is currently under active investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
