The 2026 Fishing Has No Boundaries event is one for the record books as they finished Sunday, July 19 with a banquet lunch at the Spirit Lake Casino Ballrooms.
Although the huge rooms were filled with fishermen and women in bright orange t-shirts and volunteers in green with so many others who came to help out, one volunteer said that already many had left for home after the first day’s fishing. The heat and humidity took its toll on some of the participants so they left for home early, but whether they only stayed one or two days, everyone there on Sunday was smiling and enjoying the feast prepared and served by the Casino staff.
What started with only two people 18 years ago has grown to feature 89 participants in 2026.
It’s the only Chapter of Fishing Has No Boundaries in North Dakota although it is available in some other states.
Chapter President, Buck Hamre, with his First Lady, Dawn, at his side, has this event down to a science by now. He’s been with the program since its beginning. First on the agenda at the closing banquet was honoring long-time volunteer Leroy Weber who volunteered every year until he passed away earlier this year on March 25, 2026. Buck said this event was dedicated to him and all his faithful, hard work through the years.
