Long before Devils Lake welcomed its current movie theater, classic films graced the screens of earlier theaters, including Hollywood Theater and the Lake Theatre.
The city even boasted a good old-fashioned drive-in, the Starlite Outdoor Movie Theater.
The Lake Theatre was the last movie theater left in Devils Lake, when it finally closed during the COVID shutdown. It would later be remodeled by a group of local residents, and renamed the Encore 301 when it reopened in late 2023.
Here’s to the days of yesteryear when the Silver Screen was the pinnacle of entertainment, and one could join their fellow community members in a darkened auditorium and delight in the flicker of light and shadow displayed large on a movie screen.
