FARGO, N.D. — The District 11 Democratic-NPL announced on Thursday, July 9 that Cara Cody-Braun has received the endorsement to run for the seat of the late Representative Liz Conmy, who tragically died in April but won in the June primary. According to a press release from the North Dakota Democratic-NPL, Cody-Braun intends to collect signatures and will appear on the ballot as an independent candidate but will campaign as a team with her fellow Dem-NPL candidates Tim Mathern and Anastassiya Andrianova. The district appointed Adam Goldwyn to serve the remainder of Conmy’s first term, which ends this year.
Cody-Braun pledges to support ethical government, strong public schools, and working families.
“I am running because our district has a history of sending good people to the legislature and I want to be part of that legacy,” Cody-Braun said. “I want to represent the needs of my Fargo neighbors and advocate for working families all across our great state.”
Originally from Mandan, Cody-Braun has lived in the FM area for many years. A graduate of MSUM and a recently retired teacher, Cody-Braun has been a member of the teachers’ unions Education Minnesota and North Dakota United. She is married to John Braun, a retired welder at Bobcat, and has two daughters, three stepdaughters, and 10 grandchildren.
The campaign will focus on getting to know District 11 constituents. Cody-Braun emphasized the importance of transparency and availability, saying, “I am looking forward to meeting members of District 11 at their doors and in the community. Being visible will be key because, due to unfortunate circumstances, I am getting a late start in the race for the house.”
District Chair Greg Clark said, “Cara is a public school educator, union member, and long-time resident of this district. I can think of no one better to represent our district in the State House.”
Her running mate, Anastassiya Andrianova, said, “Cody-Braun knows what has always made our district great: a thriving economy, safe neighborhoods, and strong public schools. I’m excited to run and win this campaign with her.”
