DEVILS LAKE — The Devils Lake Park Board met in its regular board meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Dockside Entertainment Center.
Following the Call to Order the board approved of the minutes from the April 21 regular meeting and the special meeting held on April 30. Chairman Kale Stromme asked for updates from each of the staff members around the room. A problem was addressed with the baseball irrigation system. Summer Ice is scheduled to begin on June 8.
Gearing up for summer
Children signing up for summer programs was discussed, including a concern about the Babe Ruth program — so far only three have signed up, but they are hoping for more.
Accompanying these reports the board also discussed plans of preparation for the Devils Run Car Show, which is set to occur from May 29-31. The show will consist of hundreds of classic cars, which will be on display at parades, rallies, and events in the city and at Spirit Lake Casino & Resort.
Regarding the current status of the pool at Ruger Park, in a strategic planning meeting come July they will prioritize what needs to be done in the near term, and in the long term. It will help to pursue whatever grants might be available “out there” and find out what other communities with aging community pools are doing to make sure that we don’t end up without our community pool.
The golf course has all the help they need, for now, but will need additional help with mowing closer to fall.
Cleaning at the Bill Jerome Arena was also discussed, suggesting using the Blue Line Club and others who use the arena regularly to help there and at the Burdick Arena.
Old business included discussions of audit finding (no recommendations), coaches room (financed through private donations), and golf GPS and modules for golf carts will be coming soon to be assembled once they get here.
Among the new business items were insurance deductibles of $500-$1,000, the 2027 budget preparations, session rate approval and trainers wage for HP treadmills, and a parking lot for the Roosevelt Pavilion.
Guest Jason Wiberg discussed the possibility of hosting the Baseball 2027 State Tourney he’s been asked to manage. It will take place the last weekend of July with eight teams and Wiberg hoped he could get enough people to volunteer to make it successful. He said “yes” to it because he believes “it is good for our kids.”
“You have our blessing” Stromme said, with the members of the board the concensus was positive about bringing this to the community.
The meeting concluded with the commissioners’ portfolios.
Louise Oleson, Editor Emeritus DLJ, attended this meeting with Isaac Vaagen, Collegiate Intern funded by NDNA.
