LACTC SkillsUSA Students Bring Home 13 Medals

Members of the Lake Area Career & Technology Centers SkillsUSA student organization in Devils Lake recently competed at the 52nd annual SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Wahpeton, ND.

Fifteen students competed in six different events and brought home 13 medals – 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.

The bronze medals went to the Quiz Bowl team consisting of members Billy Enget, Carter Christensen, Dottie Goss, Ella Wass, and Sawyer Hamre.

The silver medals went to Izhavel Nelson competing in Nurse Assisting, Kaylee Hodgins for Medical Math, and Payten Robertson in Medical Terminology.

The gold medal winners were Betty Fang for Medical Terminology and the Health Knowledge Bowl team consisting of members Rainielle Briones, Jordan Vannett, Kaylee Hodgins, and Izhavel Nelson.

In addition to the medal winners, Devils Lake had a student chosen to serve on next year’s State Officer team as well. Congratulations to Emilee Nelson! She will start her duties this summer and serve throughout the 2026-2027 school year.

The gold medal winners are now eligible to compete at the National SkillsUSA Conference held June 1-5, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. The students, along with their advisor Marla Luehring, will be fundraising to help defray the cost of the upcoming trip. Luehring expressed her pride in all of the students’ accomplishments and their representation of Devils Lake at the State Conference.
