The only cadet graduating Tuesday from the U.S. Indian Police Academy Advanced Training Center who was from North Dakota was Stanley Petit who currently serves as a Corrections Officer at the Gerald Tex Fox Justice Center located in New Town, ND.
Like all the graduates he completed 252 hours of correctional officer training evaluated by written examinations, hand-on labs, and pass/fail practical exercises. The courses completed were in Policy and Procedures, Correctional Security, Intake Procedures, Rights of Inmates, Use of Force, Communication, Suicide Prevention, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Medication Protocols, Drug Awareness, Interviewing, Defensive Tactics, Baton, CPR, OC, and more. He also successfully completed 10 hours of legal subjects and 24 hours of physical fitness training.
Petit, is 45 years old, single, and is originally from Miami, Fla., but he’s lived in N.D. for eight years. He has already achieved the rank of Sergeant as a corrections officer for the Three Affiliated Tribes.
He said with this certification he is double certified in North Dakota and that should help bring him up in the ranks.
