BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced Agriculture Diversification and Development (ADD) Fund awards for five projects. The awards totaling $1 million were approved at the ADD quarterly meeting Feb. 25 in Bismarck.
He also announced the state’s Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awards for five more projects. Those awards totaling $398,821.25 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting Feb. 26 in Bismarck.
The ADD Fund is administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The fund was created to support new or expanding value-added-agriculture businesses that demonstrate financial feasibility, enhance profitability for the industry, create jobs and grow North Dakota’s economy. Types of projects eligible for the fund include but are not limited to agriculture product manufacturing and animal production facilities, commodity processing facilities, and food production and processing facilities. Feed or pet food processing facilities may be eligible.
The following received approval:
- · Carnis Meat Processing LLC received $250,000 to procure meat processing equipment and upgrade their facility.
- · Hystad Ranch received $300,000 to support the construction of a hoop barn to expand livestock operations.
- · J&D Feeders, LLC received $200,000 to support the construction of a hoop barn to expand livestock operations.
- · Smoke Wagon Meats, LLC received $100,000 to support the construction of a new facility and procure meat processing equipment.
- · Travis Dukart received $150,000 to support the construction of a hoop barn and supporting facilities to accommodate an expanded cow-calf operation and backgrounding facility.
APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products which support the development of concepts and products that support our rural communities and agriculture operations. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.
The following received approval:
- · FOMO 10/40 Creamery received $99,800 to hire a marketing firm for branding of their ice cream.
- · Kate’s Poperella LLC received $42,581.25 to establish a commercial kitchen for baked goods.
- · NDSU received $37,690 for the development of biodegradable beads and films made from crop byproducts.
- · NDSU received $35,000 to develop hard red spring wheat-based frozen dough products.
- · PermanentFarming Inc dba Pergena received $183,750 to study how manure can be reliably converted into renewable energy and other products.
Applications for the next ADD and APUC meetings must be received by April 1.
