The first Friday of March each year the world pauses to pray.
March 6, 2026 is World Day of Prayer and around the globe men, women and children will stop whatever they are doing and turn their hearts and minds to prayer.
The people of several churches in the Devils Lake, Lake Region community also set aside their differences in theology and dogma and come together at 2 p.m. that day to pray for our world.
This year’s World Day of Prayer will take place at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 612 14th Ave. NE and its focus will be the people of Nigeria with the scripture emphasized, Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Promotional material from the World Day of Prayer committee 2026 states, “When we bring our weariness to Christ and support one another in community, we find rest and strength to continue our journey.”
“World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christians of many faith traditions who come together for an annual observance of a common day of prayer and action on the first Friday in March.”
“Each year a different country serves as the writer of the WDP worship service, interpreting the Bible in their own context and lifting up in prayer the challenges and issues experienced by men, women and children across the globe. The WDP motto is “informed prayer and prayerful action.” WDP promotes justice and equality for all through prayer, partnerships, service and celebration.”
At the local celebration of World Day of Prayer you will pray with people from a number of churches and traditions. The program will be unique and include words written by the people of Nigeria as well as local leaders blending a time of prayer and call to action for all humans.
There will be music and scripture reading. You will “hear” the voices of Nigerians sharing their experiences how God provides rest through community support, faith and hope.
A light lunch, or refreshment will be provided by the people of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and an offering will be taken to send to the World Day of Prayer headquarters to continue this work throughout the world.
