FARGO, N.D. – Lake Region State College DECA students fared well at the North Dakota Collegiate DECA State Conference on Feb. 9 and 10, taking first and second place in several categories and qualifying to represent North Dakota in an upcoming international conference in April.
Brody Parker took first place in the Entrepreneurship Exam, and second place in the Entrepreneurship Operations. Alex Popowski-Thompson took first place in Travel and Tourism. Jaelyn Buckman won the Outstanding DECA Member Service Award, presented to her by Matty Ertelt, a former Devils Lake High School and LRSC grad as well as the current DECA president now attending the University of North Dakota. Alex Popowski-Thompson and Kellan Wiberg shared second place in Entertainment Marketing. Buckman and Parker also jointly won first place in Financial Statement Analysis and were National Qualifiers in Sports Marketing.
The students are now qualified to participate in the upcoming International Career & Development Conference (ICDC), to be held in Louisville, Ky. on April 17-22.
DECA, formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a career and technical student organization for students at the high school or college level with an interest in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.
