LARIMORE, N.D. – To spread some kindness this holiday season, the student council of Larimore High School launched “Bless a Bear,” an anonymous program made to help students in need of a little extra love and support this winter.

Students were able to request essential items like clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, or small comfort items—all while remaining anonymous. Students could also make requests on behalf of friends or others who might be struggling, so that they were able to get that support without having to ask on their own.

A “Giving Tree” at the school has been filled with ornaments, each representing simple, essential items requested by one of their “Polar Bears.”

Participants are invited to take a tag from the tree, purchase the listed item(s), and return it unwrapped to the main office by Friday, Jan. 9. All donations will be distributed thereafter to students privately.

While there is no way to know the exact number of kids who have been helped thus far by the Bless a Bear program, it’s presumed to be in the triple digits, and serves as a wonderful way for students and staff to help each other out over the holidays.

This reporter hopes it continues for years to come.
