BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Wednesday, Nov. 5 that the Lake Region Human Service Center in Devils Lake has officially been renamed the Lake Region Behavioral Health Clinic, part of a statewide effort to better reflect the behavioral health services being provided across North Dakota at the clinics.

Despite the name change, which was approved by the 2025 Legislature, HHS and Lake Region Behavioral Health Clinic staff assert that the mission remains the same: to provide quality accessible, and person-centered behavioral health care and support for individuals and families in the Devils Lake area, including residents of the counties of Adams, Benson, Billings, Bowman, Cavalier, Dunn, Eddy, Hettinger, Golden Valley, Ramsey, Rolette, Slope, Stark and Towner.

“Our new name better reflects our focus on supporting behavioral health and recovery for individuals and families across our region,” said Regional Director Julie Baumgarn.

Lake Region offers a broad range of behavioral health services, including therapy, skills teaching and integration, case management, medication management and substance use disorder treatment. Additionally, the clinics provide walk-in assessments Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as 24/7 crisis care, all delivered with a focus on accessibility, quality and compassion.

“When people need help, knowing where to turn matters,” said Pamela Sagness, HHS executive director of behavioral health. “This name change better reflects who we are and what we do—helping North Dakotans access behavioral health care and recovery support when they need it.”

The updated name is being introduced through a phased rollout that began this summer. State and regional teams are updating signage, forms, websites, and other materials to reflect the change while minimizing disruption for clients and partners. The transition will not affect access to services, clinic locations, or hours of operation.

North Dakota’s eight behavioral health clinics serve individuals and families statewide through regional offices located in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown, Minot and Williston with additional outreach locations in Grafton, Rolla, Valley City and Watford City. In the last biennium ending June 30 of this year, the network of regional behavioral clinics provided behavioral health services to 15,104 individuals and delivered over 30,000 crisis interventions to more than 3,900 individuals.
