By Harry Lipsiea Journal Sports For Jamie Hoffner, it all started in Devils Lake. While his professional baseball career took him to stadiums all over the United States, the Lake Region will always be home for the now Arizona man. Before he was hitting homers for the New York Mets organization, Hoffner was a mainstay in several athletic programs in the area. At Devils Lake High School, the 1985 graduate earned All-Conference honors in football and hockey. Hoffner was a key member of back-to-back Class B State Championship American Legion baseball teams in 1983 and 1984. In 1985, the squad advanced to the 1985 Class A State Tournament. Ultimately, he remembers his time growing up in Devils Lake as a very positive experience. "I have nothing but great memories of playing sports with my friends," Hoffner added. "A lot of lessons learned along the way too. Devils Lake is where I found my passion for sports." For the full story, purchase a copy of today's journal on newsstands or online.
