Republican legislators in Indiana announced March 30 that they will be working to add language to the recently passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act to ensure that it does not allow for discrimination against gay people. The passage of the RFRA — which prohibits state laws that “burden” a person’s ability to follow his or her religious beliefs — was met with widespread criticism after Gov. Mike Pence signed the act late last month.
The 2015 Religious Understandings of Science survey conducted by researcher Elaine Ecklund and colleagues at Rice University’s Religion & Public Life Program found that 48 percent of evangelicals believe that science and religion can work together. The study polled 10,000 Americans on their religious beliefs, focusing on evangelical Christians.
