The Lake Region Royals Women’s Fastpitch Team traveled to Phoenix, Arizona during their spring break to play four doubleheaders against some area Community Colleges. On Monday, South Mountain Community College increased their record to 16-15 with 10-0 and 13-4 wins over the Royals.
The Royals were led in hitting by Samone Motley who was three for five with a home run, two RBI’s and two runs scored. Rebecca Gurski pitched the opener, while Alaina McKinnon lost in the evening final.
On Wednesday, Phoenix College showed the Royals why they rank in the top five teams in the nation. The Royals scored only one run and had only one hit in the 20-1 and 19-0 losses. Georgia Lagore had the only hit and RBI as Kiahna Chumola and Alaina McKinnon took the pitching losses.
In Thursday’s evening games, the Royals were defeated by Gateway Community College 11-1 in the opener. Maddie Eriksson had two hits and Alaina McKinnon was the losing pitcher. Gateway won the second game 12-3 as Coutney Fines had two hits as Kiahna Chumola took the pitching loss.
The Royals concluded their road trip Friday morning against Chandler-Gilbert Community College losing 14-1 and 9-1. Courtney Fines, Rebecca Gurski, and Kiahna Chumola each had two hits in the first game while Maddie Eriksson, Alaina McKinnon, and Kiahna Chumola had the only hits in the second. Rebecca Gurski and Alaina McKinnon were the losing pitchers.
The Royals travel to Rosemount, Minnesota this next weekend to participate in the Blue Knight Tournament played in a bubble dome facility.
