During Monday afternoon's meeting of the Devils Lake School Board, several staffing decisions for the 2014-2015 school year were made. Ultimately, board members approved three letters of resignation, six staff appointments and a one-year contract.
Superintendent of Schools Scott Privratsky presented letters of resignation that he had received from Michelle Jerve, Nathan Murray and Bridget Hanlan. Jerve taught art at the high school, Murray was an alternative social studies teacher at LACTC and Hanlan was the fifth-and-sixth grade music instructor at Central Middle School.
Privratsky then recommended the appointments of Terri Moser, Megan Wasness, Scott Klett, Kristine Klett, Amanda Fimreite and Samantha Richards.
Moser was approved as the new kindergarten teacher at Sweetwater Elementary. A 2013 graduate of Mayville State University, Moser completed her student teaching at Sweetwater. For the past year, she has been a substitute in the Devils Lake school district. Terri will replace Nicole Herman who resigned at the end of the school year.
Wasness has been hired as a speech and english instructor at the high school. A North Dakota State University graduate, she completed student teaching at Central Middle School and has served as a substitute in the Devils Lake School District. Wasness will replace Anthony McIntyre who resigned at the end of the school year.
Scott Klett was approved to join the staff as a guidance counselor at Devils Lake High School. A University of North graduate, has six years of education experience at North Dakota Schools. He taught PhyEd and Health at Turtle Lake High School for four years and was the K-12 guidance counselor in Ray for two years. Klett will replace Ashley Michael who resigned at the end of the past school year.
Kristine Klett has been approved as a kindergarten teacher at Minne H Elementary. A University of North Dakota graduate, she has experience as a Title I teacher in Turtle Lake for three years and first-and-second grade instructor at Ray. She has been hired to fill the new kindergarten position at Minnie H.
Amanda Fimreite was approved as the art instructor at Devils Lake High School. A Minot State University graduate, she completed her student teaching at Glenburn High School. Fimreite will replace Michelle Jerve who resigned at the end of the past school year.
Samantha Richards has been approved as the fifth-and-sixth grade music teacher at Central Middle School. A graduate of Valley City State University, Richards has worked in Davenport, Iowa for the past three years. She will replace Bridget Hanlan who recently resigned.
Privratsky then recommended to offer Carly Peterson a one-year contract to replace a third grade teacher who is on a leave of absence for the year at Sweetwater Elementary. A graduate of Mayville State University, Peterson completed her student teaching at Sweetwater Elementary and has served as a long-term substitute in the district.
The staff members will join Emily Kunze, Minnie H, and Jane Whitford, Sweetwater, who were approved by the school board earlier this year, as new employees.
