In Monday’s blog I stated that the BCS national championship game would be one of those games that would live up to the hype it was given.  It didn’t quite do that.  The game was over shortly after 6:30 Central Time on Monday evening.  Unfortunately, kickoff wasn’t until 7:30.  I don’t think Notre Dame even knew what hit them.  I really felt the game would be a close game and a good game with Alabama winning in the end.  However, Alabama dominated from start to finish and Notre Dame looked terribly overmatched.  It was a dominating performance from start to finish.

Twenty-four hours later Alabama’s basketball team was being soundly defeated by the Missouri Tigers for Missouri’s first SEC conference victory ever.  Missouri was able to recover very nicely from Saturday’s offensive struggles and put together a very nice game to get their first SEC victory.  Obviously it was much easier getting the first SEC victory in basketball than it was in football.  Missouri plays Mississippi on Saturday night.

I actually think Missouri can have a fairly successful year in the SEC as this seems to be a good year for Missouri to join the SEC given that the SEC is down a little bit as Kentucky, Florida, and Vanderbilt are all in a rebuilding year and the SEC as a whole doesn’t appear to be nearly as tough as it has been in previous years.  Missouri still has some very tough games ahead of them and some of those games will be played in places like Kentucky and Vanderbilt where it is very hard to win.  Missouri still has a young team who haven’t played a lot of basketball together but I think they have far exceeded expectations so far this year and I really like this team and the job coach Frank Haith has done in putting it together.

Both Truman State basketball teams have another home game at Pershing on Thursday facing Central Oklahoma, one of the MIAA’s new teams this year.  The Truman women are playing excellent basketball right now while the men continue to struggle.  The men are still really young but continue to improve every game.

Both Kirksville High School basketball teams defeated Marshal on Tuesday with the girls getting another impressive road win while the boys started slowly but finished well against a tough Owls team.

The Kirksville High School wrestlers also posted a victory on Tuesday and are performing at a very high level right now.

We’l be back on Friday with a look ahead to this weekend’s sports action including a preview of the NFL’s second round of playoffs and this weekend’s college and high school basketball action.  Thanks for supporting this blog and please do the same for all the other blogs on this site.

Have a great Wednesday!
