DEVILS LAKE — There’s no sugarcoating it: It’s been a struggle for the Lake Region State College baseball team.

After falling in their first two games on the road, the Devils Lake Firebirds won their first home game on Tuesday.

The first person I saw when I walked into the Dodgers’ clubhouse was Mark Prior.

DEVILS LAKE — It was a rainy, gloomy, windy evening at DLYA Legion Field. At the start of Monday’s game, it was tough to even stand outside, let alone play baseball.

DEVILS LAKE — After a postponement last week, the Devils Lake baseball team (3-4) finally got to play a game at DLYA Legion Field on Friday.

CANDO — While the Haglers and Simons were enjoying a cruise, the North Star Bearcats were beating up on the Dunseith Dragons on a windy, drizzly afternoon in North Dakota.

The Devils Lake boys’ and girls’ track and field squads competed in the EDC Indoor Meet on Saturday. While the boys placed eighth out of nine teams and the girls finished seventh out of eight, numerous individual athletes set personal records. The Firebirds had particular success in the relay events — especially Sara Kraft, Aubrie Lebrun, Bella Tangedal and Ella Wass, who set a school record in the 4x400.

No matter what happened on Saturday, Grant Nelson undoubtedly brought pride and excitement to this little town of Devils Lake.

MINNEAPOLIS — Entering Wednesday’s series finale with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins second baseman Edouard Julien only had one home run.
