Warwick stuns Lakota-Adams-Edmore in District 7

Mitchell Owlboy and Shandy Brown both scored six points in the opening period to help set the tone as Warwick scored the lone upset of the first day of the District 7 tournament Saturday at the Devils Lake Sports Center.
Owlboy and Brown both finished in double figures as the Warriors moved into Monday’s semifinal round with a 57-46 win over the Raiders. Warwick will face New Rockford-Sheyenne in one semifinal game, while Carrington and Wells County will tip off in the first semifinal, which is scheduled to get under way at approximately 6 p.m. at the Sports Center.
Carrington had little trouble in taking care of Maddock 74-21 in Saturday’s opening game of the tournament, whilc Wells County got past Harvey 51-39 to also advance.
New Rockford-Sheyenne used a 32-20 first half and went on to defeat Midkota 70-44 in Saturday’s other quarterfinal round game.
The tandem of Owlboy and Brown combined for 12 points for Warwick as the Warriors built an 18-9 lead after the first eight minutes of the game.
L-A-E cut into that deficit in the second quarter, but still trailed 29-21 at halftime and were never able to fully recover  over the final two periods of play.
Warwick outscored the Raiders 28-25 in the second half to secure the win.
Brown led the Warriors with 13 points, while Owlboy finished with 12 points of his own. Melvin Langstaff also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Four other Warwick players figured into the scoring for the Warriors.
Logan Erickson led all scorers with 17 points, including 10 points in the second half.
Seth Kuchar was the only other L-A-E player to reach double figures. He finished with 11 points.

Four different players cracked the scoring column for New Rockford-Sheyenne in the first quarter as the Rockets ran to a 15-6 advantage and went on to defeat Midkota 70-44.
The Rockets led 32-20 at halftime and extended that advantage to 54-29 after three quarters by outscoring the Mustangs 22-9 in the third period.
Brett Allmaras and Stephen Guler combined to nearly match Midkota’s offensive output. Allmaras led all scorers in the game with 22 points, while Guler finished right behind with 21 points of his own.
Alex Miller and Dalton Ehlers led the Mustangs with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Carrington 74,
Maddock 21
Top-seeded Carrington wasted little time in taking command of its game against Maddock and went on to post a convincing 74-21 win over the Bobcats in Saturday’s opening game.
The Cardinals led 25-8 after the first eight minutes and extended its lead to 41-12 at halftime.
A 33-9 spurt over the final two periods was simply more than enough to allow the Cardinals to improve to 18-2 on the season.
Kaleb Klein scored 25 points to lead the Cardinals, while Devin Barton added 20 points of his own.
They were to only two Carrington players to finish in double figures, but a total of eight diffierent Cardinals broke into the scoring column.
Mikel Buckmeier and Josh Sears both scored eight points to lead Maddock, which will take a 1-19 record into Monday’s elimination round.

Wells County 51,
Harvey 39
After holding a slim 21-19 lead at halftime, Wells County managed to advance to the semifinal round with a big third quarter that saw the Bears outscore Harvey 18-8.
That allowed Wells County to advance to play Carrington in Monday’s first semifinal game, while New Rockford-Sheyenne will tip off in the second championship round game.
Kelby Houchin scored six of his 16 points in the third period, while Logan Nuemiller and Kolten Knodel both chipped in with five points in the quarter for the Bears. Neumiller finished with a game-high 19 points.
M.J. Stumpf led the way for Harvey with 10 points and was the lone Hornet to reach double figures.
