Trey Burton of Huntsville continued his steady pace of playing prep golf this 2018 spring season.

The Westran High School sophomore carded a 1-over-par score of 73 Wednesday to be the individual champion of the 2018 Marceline Golf Tournament, while three of his teammates joined him in earning medals at this 18-hole event participated by golfers from 10 schools.

Burton led the Hornets boys golf team to a second place finish in the team standings with a cumulative score of 332, just one stroke behind team champion Macon High School. Marceline finished third with a 335 and La Plata turned in a 387 four fourth place while Northeast R-IV School at Cairo ended up with a 439 score to finish fifth. Other schools competing were Brookfield, Carrollton, Glasgow, Milan and Slater.

Burton of Westran recorded a double birdie on the par-5 Hole No. 12 as a highlight of his day. He finished with two birdies and made 11 pars.

Medalists Corbin Brockleman of the Hornets carded an 84, Gage Bealmer had an 87 and Michael Haynie had 88. Senior Avery Hammond finished with a 92 score.

From Cairo, Brayden Van Cleve led the Bearcats unit with a 94 score and Jayden Warren had a 96. Also, Trevor Burrus scored 117, Keath Neimeier shot a 132 and Zach Prather had 133.
