John Allen Littlewind “Ta Tanka Maza” (Iron Buffalo), 23, was born May 24, 1986, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake and entered the Spirit World on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fort Totten, ND, with Fr. Charles Leute O.P. officiating. Burial will be in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Crow Hill. A wake will be held Friday at the Crow Hill Recreation Center with a rosary and scripture service at 8 p.m. Music will be from Tony and Vina McDonald, Carol Greywater, the Dakota Express Drum Group and all other drum groups are invited.
The procession to the recreation center will leave Friday at 4 p.m. from his mother’s home at Crow Hill.

John Allen Littlewind was born May 24, 1986, in Devils Lake, the son of Lavina Littlewind and adopted father:, Jamie Gene Jetty. He attended school at the Oberon Public School through the 8th grade, 9th grade at Sheyenne Public School and 10th grade at Minnewaukan Public School. John had worked at the Spirit Lake Casino, Sioux Manufacturing and Spirit Lake Refuse Control.
John was very active in basketball and little league fast pitch baseball until the age of 16 and then played softball. He enjoyed cards, dice and playing horseshoes. John liked riding horses and breaking wild horses for local ranchers.
John is survived by his mother, Lavina Littlewind of Crow Hill; adopted father, Jamie Gene Jetty of Grand Forks, ND; sister and brother, Johanna DuBois and Duane L.
