Robert “Bob” C. Piper, 83, of Devils Lake, ND, died on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, with his wife and family at his side.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Pastor Luke Bell will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Music will be provided by Fay Huffman.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Military honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Serving as casket bearers will be Roger Loken, Mike Loken, Gary Loken, Jim Fossen, Ron Piper, Brian Ordahl, Tom Copeland and Darin Loken. Honorary bearers will be all of Bob’s nieces and nephews.
Robert “Bob” C. Piper, loving son of Hiram and Hulda (Jacobson) Piper, was born on April 8, 1926, in rural Maddock, ND. He was raised and educated in Benson County and attended the Eldon Township Country Schools. Bob was drafted into the United States Army at Fargo, ND, on January 15, 1951. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington in January of 1952. On June 2, 1965, Bob and  Patty Kulp were united in marriage. They made their home in the Minnewaukan area moving to Devils Lake to the Great Northern Apartments about 11 years ago.
Bob farmed in rural Minnewaukan his entire life. He was a true steward of the land. He believed in nurturing and taking care of the land that God gave him. Bob was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Devils Lake and a participant in many area Bible studies.
Bob gave thanks to God for all of his blessings, especially for those of a faithful and loving wife, his dear, caring family and his nieces and nephews, all of whom have helped care for him these past years.
Robert “Bob” Piper is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patty “Pat”; stepson, Grady Crech of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine (Tilford) Fossen, of Maddock, ND; sister-in-law Evie Piper, Rugby, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey and George Piper; sister, Ena Loken and twin siblings, Leroy and Lois Piper in infancy and step daughter, Pauline Sherrin.
