Maynard K. Orvik, 82, of Lakota, ND, formerly of Michigan, ND, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center.
Maynard Kenneth Orvik was born January 14, 1928 in Melrose Township of Nelson County, ND, the son of Goodwin and Vilda (Masters) Orvik.  He was raised on his parents' farm and attended the Melrose Township School. He began a lifetime of farming, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  Maynard married Kajsa L. Jerdin on June 20, 1954 at Michigan Lutheran Church.  They lived, farmed, and raised their family together in Williams Township.  Maynard and Kajsa began foster home care in the early 1970’s. They moved to the Good Samaritan Center in October of 2006.
Maynard was a member of Michigan Lutheran Church and a past member of the Knights of Pythias and the Williams Township Board.  He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing.
Kajsa died December 10, 2006. Maynard continued living in Lakota until the time of his death.
Maynard will be missed by his seven children, Michael (Loa Jean) Orvik of Minot, Kent (Marla) Orvik of Bismarck, Gregg (Brenda) Orvik of Minot, Diane (Jeff) Messner of Moorcroft, WY, Connie (Charlie) Auker of Albuquerque, NM, Angie (Roger) Schlenk of Sherburne, MN, and David (Kristy) Reep of Fargo; 17 grandchildren, Erik Orvik, Christa Orvik, Carly Messner, Joe Messner, Andrew Auker, Michael Auker, Nickolas Auker, Korissa Orvik, Kendria Orvik, Kayla Orvik, Cody Orvik, Zachary Orvik, Olivia Orvik, Amy (Andrew) Nepp, Emily Schlenk, Ily Schlenk, Ellie Jean Reep; and two sisters, Verneil Orvik of Lakota and Louise Urness of Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kajsa; an infant son; his sister, Verna Orvik; an infant sister; his brother, Robert Orvik; and an infant brother, Maynard Kenneth Orvik.
Maynard’s funeral service will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church, Michigan on Saturday, August 28 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Melrose Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Michigan. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, on Friday, August 27 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials are prefered to the Michigan Lutheran Church.
