Representatives from the ND State Water Commission will be in Devils Lake Thursday morning at 9 a.m. for a hearing on the East Devils Lake Outlet in the Historical Room in the basement of the Ramsey County Courthouse.
Their purpose is to gather public input and comments on the project although it is already under way and its initial phase nearly completed.
The East Devils Lake Outlet will pump water from the east end of Devils Lake through a mostly underground 96-inch steel and concrete pipeline to a terminal station and then into the Tolna Coulee. The length of the pipeline will be 5.5 miles.
Here’s the plan, at the intake, located in the southeast corner of East Devils Lake, one 50 cfs and four 75 cfs pumps could move as much as 350 cubic feet per second (cfs) of water that has been filtered through a rock filter, part of the design.
Although the initial plan was to have all of the pipeline laid by Thanksgiving, now the new date they will be finished is Thursday, Dec. 1 - the day of the hearing.
According to Jeff Frith of the Devils Lake Basin Joint Water Resource Board there will be members of several water boards attending the hearing including those of Towner, Ramsey, Nelson and Benson counties.
The public is encouraged to attend and present their comments on the project.
