A local team of curlers will be representing the state and local community at the Junior National Curling Championships in Madison, WI on January 28 - February 4. Checks from local organizations were instrumental to the team to help with expenses.
The team is comprised of Alex Kitchens, Adam Kitchens, Nathan Myhre, Brandon Myhre.
All of the boys started curling between 9-11 years old.
Adam’s first competitive curling was when he was a member of the team that won high school state in 2004.
New Year’s weekend the team crowned champions of the North Dakota State Junior Playdowns and qualified for national competition in Madison. The winner of this national competition will compete in the World competition in Sweden on March 5-13.
The team has been been preparing for this all fall.
In addition to attending Junior Nationals in Alaska in January, 2011 (last year they went as the number two team, this year they are the number one team), they’ve competed in bonspiels in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Canada. The group has curled against the top national, and Olympic curlers at three World Curling Tour Events.
Adam Kitchens is a junior at NDSU and Brandon Myhre is a junior at UND. Alex Kitchens and Nathan Myhre are both seniors at Devils Lake High School and are taking classes from Lake Region State College.
