The city of Orlando was a place where dreams come true for some Lake Region State College students.
More than 1,800 of America’s best and brightest college students arrived there in June to participate in the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference. Students were able to showcase their talents as future business leaders and compete for the opportunity to win more than $90,000 in cash awards. Phi Beta Lambda is part of the largest and oldest student business organization.
Participants from around the country were in attendance for this exciting conference to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 55 business and business-related competitive events, said Diane Karlsbraaten, LRSC advisor for PBL.
“The Lake Region State College students showcased their talents in various categories and did very well,” she said.
Jason Bedsaul and Janine Yule from LRSC received national recognition at the PBL Award of Excellence. They competed in Business Presentation and brought home second place.
Bedsaul competed in Web Site Design/Development and brought home a seventh place award. Michele Aaker of Lake Region State College also attended the conference.
Advisor Diane Karlsbraaten was also honored at the conference for being the North Dakota Outstanding Phi Beta Lambda advisor for 2010-2011.
The awards were part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business career-related areas.
“For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers,” Karlsbraaten said.
In additional to the competitions, students immersed themselves in educational workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and attended motivational keynotes on a broad range of business topics.
