BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says an old email scam has surfaced again in North Dakota.
He says the scam artists hack into an email account and use it to solicit so-called "emergency" donations from people on the account's contact list. Stenehjem says it's an unusual scam because it has multiple victims — the owner of the email account and the friends who wire money thinking they're helping a friend.
Stenehjem says a Bismarck resident recently reported losing several thousand dollars to the scam.
