Mabel Tofsrud was born on May 7, 1918, near Churchs Ferry, the daughter of Peder and Olava (Helgeseth) Tofsrud. She was reared and educated in the Churchs Ferry area. She worked for a short time in Devils Lake before her marriage.
Mabel was united in marriage to Thomas George Ose on May 27, 1946 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They lived for a short time in Rolla, ND, and later moved to Glenburn, ND, where they owned and operated a grocery store for 5½ years. In 1953 they moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. In addition to their two children, they were foster parents for several children over the years. One of their foster children was with them for 10 years. After George passed away on January 8, 1990, Mabel continued to make Devils Lake her home.
Mabel was an active member of Antiochia Lutheran Church in her youth and then St. Olaf Lutheran Church after her marriage. She was also very active in the Foster Grandparent program for over six years, working with Headstart children.
We are thankful for the many years we had Mabel in our lives, and will treasure our memories of her in our hearts.
Mabel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Patty Ose of Wildomar, CA and daughter Sharon Ose of Chaske, MN; grandchildren, Dustin “Dusty” (Fianna) Ose, Jessicia Ose, Kelsey (Desiree) Ose; great-grandchild, Samuel Ose; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
