The atmosphere at Central Middle School was electric Wednesday morning as students geared up for summer vacation and teachers wrapped up another year at the head of the classroom.
A rally was held in the gymnasium for the students to celebrate the last day of school and included photos and memories of the year gone by.
The grand finale, however, left some of the students staring in amazement.
A number of faculty members teamed up to present a dance to “Baby,” by Justin Bieber — and the result was a fun, hip-hop number that left students smiling from ear to ear.
Math teacher Cathy Miller was credited with the surprise performance.
“I got the idea from a friend in the cities,” she said. “Their teachers do it and I thought, 'why not?'”
Local physician Heidi Bittner was asked to be the guest choreographer for the group and with only four rehearsals, managed to pull the performance together.
"I was honored and delighted when approached by the team and invited to be their guest choreographer,” Bitnner said. “The amount of raw talent in this group is just incredible, and it's been a privilege to work with them."
She added, "I heard a rumor that they've been approached by America's Best Dance Crew to compete next season. They certainly have the ability, no doubt about that, and I'm sure the kids would be proud to watch them bust a move on TV; however, the CMS staff would sure miss them while they're gone."
