Devils Lake area residents have a unique opportunity today when members of the Red River Basin Commission come to town for a meeting to discuss flood issues - a Flood Forum.
They want to hear residents’ concerns as the commission prepares recommendations for basin-wide flood protection strategies to be sent to policymakers in the North Dakota and Minnesota legislature.
Why should the Red River concern us here in the Lake Region? Because Devils Lake is a part of the Red River Basin and what happens here in the Devils Lake Basin effects those who live downstream, including along the Red River and on up into Canada.
The Red River Basin Commission is asking for residents to share their stories and help shape future flood damage reduction strategies. If unable to attend, tell a friend or send stories and photos to flood2009@redriverbasincommission.org.
The Flood Forum will be held in the Historical Room in the basement of the Ramsey County Courthouse and begins at 6:30 p.m. Enter the building by using the north door entrance.
