Signs to honor the different branches of the military are expected to soon become a part of Roosevelt Park after a meeting of the Devils Lake Park Board on Wednesday.

George Zenk explained to the board a donation had been received from the local VFW for the purchase of the signs, but a change order had been made to the signs, which will now display the decals of each of the branches of the military. Zenk also announced intentions to erect a plaque to recognize the contributions of Balzer Kurtz and others to the project.

He said its likely the plaques will not be put in place at the park until early next spring.

The board also announced it will apply for a grant from the Devils Lake Area Foundation to help offset the cost of the lighting improvement project at Burdick Arena in Devils Lake, as well as to purchase equipment for some youth baseball teams in 2010.

The Board gave its approval to Park Board Superintendent Terry Wallace to proceed with plans to fix the heating system at Burdick Arena, along with improvements to the showers at the facility.

The Board also accepted the Devils Lake Blue Line Club's in-kind contribution of time and work in painting the interior of the arena in exchange for the space on the walls of the facilities the club uses for advertising space.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Devils Lake Park Board will be Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 5:15 p.m.
