The ND Highway Patrol is investigating the head-on crash that left one man dead and another seriously injured on Wednesday morning in the Lake Region.
The incident happened on Highway 19 west of Devils Lake just past the Six Mile Bay bridge at 6:50 a.m. on June 23.
Nineteen-year old Caleb Day from Jamestown was driving a 2005 GMC straight truck heading east.
Clint DeVier, 51, from Devils Lake, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban towing a 2006, 20-foot Lund boat heading west.
A 54-year old male passenger in DeVier’s vehicle, Randall Myers, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Captain Kyle Ternes of the ND Highway Patrol.
According to the official report from the NDHP the two vehicles collided head on just a few feet west of the bridge. The Day vehicle came to rest facing south in the westbound lane and DeVier’s vehicle came to rest in the south ditch facing southeast. The boat came off DeVier’s trailer and came to rest facing south in the westbound lane of traffic.
Both drivers were transported via ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake and Day was airlifted to Merit Care Hospital in Fargo.
