FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man is accused of stealing the identity of his 10-year-old son to pass bad checks and impersonating a Hooters restaurant manager to avoid the bill for a weeklong hotel stay in Bismarck.
The Forum newspaper reports 33-year-old Joseph Lightowler also has pleaded guilty to giving his mother a counterfeit $15,000 check to pay off a loan on a vehicle.
Lightowler faces a March 29 trial in Bismarck for failing to pay the $1,052 Candlewood Suites bill, a charge he has denied. He also faces an April 9 sentencing in Cass County on forgery and theft charges.
He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of using his son's Social Security number to open an account on which he allegedly passed $65,000 in bad checks.
