First Community Credit Union made its final integration with all the accounts from the former Citizens Community Credit Union.

First Community Credit Union made its final integration with all the accounts from the former Citizens Community Credit Union.  Last year, CCCU was taken over by federal regulators, and in December of 2017, FCCU announced it would merge CCCU with its operations, a process that would take many months.  This week, the merger was complete, but not without a few bugs in the process and many frustrated customers.

“We had to send out new cards to all former CCCU customers,” said Steve Schmitz, “change account numbers, everything.”  Schmitz is the president of FCCU.

Many FCCU customers didn’t realize what had happened until they stopped for gas or went to the store.  FCCU sent out letters ahead of time to all its customers in Devils Lake and Grand Forks letting them know this would the week and that new account numbers and cards were coming.  One customer told the Devils Lake Journal he went home and decided to check his trash.  There was the envelop, with the new card.

“I understand that this didn’t work perfectly,” said Schmitz, “but it was close to what we anticipated.  We had lots of calls Monday, but only about half the volume today.  We had to give everyone new account and card numbers so we didn’t have duplication.  Now, FCCU is fully integrated across all its branches.  We can even transfer check images.”
