Dwight Jon Zimmerman is back in Devils Lake by popular demand and will be speaking at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium at LRSC for the final Chautauqua event of the season.

Dwight Jon Zimmerman is back in Devils Lake by popular demand and will be speaking at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium at LRSC for the final Chautauqua event of the season.

Zimmerman is something of a modern day Renaissance man who is a 1971 graduate of Devils Lake Central High School. He’s a No. 1 New York Times best-selling and award-winning author of military history, comic books and graphic novels, radio host, movie and television producer, editor and president of the Military Writers Society of America. He has written more than a dozen books, more than 300 articles, hundreds of comic book stories, amongst other writing credits.

His books include Lincoln’s Last Days, the No. 1 New York Times best-selling adaptation of Killing Lincoln by Bill O’Reilly and Uncommon Valor: The Medal of Honor and the Warriors who earned it in Afghanistan and Iraq, which won the 2010 Military Writer’s Society of America Founder’s Award, the organization’s highest honor. His comic book credits include stories about such Marvel super heroes as Spider Man, Wolverine, Iron Man and more. His comic book story “Devil’s Advocate” published in the X-Files issue No.40 was set in Devils Lake and “The Demon of Devils Heart” is another title that has become a rare collector’s item, published by Topps comics.

He’s lectured at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Naval War College, has appeared on the FOX programs DEFCON-3 hosted by K.T. McFarland and AMERICA NEWS HQ discussing military subjects. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife Joélle and they have two adult children. His mom, Darlene, still lives on 7th Avenue in Devils Lake, his hometown.

Zimmerman’s visit to the community includes the following:

•Friday, Aug. 31 6 p.m. supper at the VFW where he will visit and sign books afterwards.

•Sept. 1 - Book discussion and signing at the Public Library 10:30 a.m.

•Sept. 4 - Talks to students at DLPS - Lara Prozinski’s classes

•Sept. 5 - ND Chautauqua event 7 p.m. in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium at LRSC. Following the conclusion of his presentation, Zimmerman will have a book signing of a variety of his comics and books to help raise funds for N.D. Chautauqua.
