Mieciu ‘Matt’ Kostecki, 89, a longtime Devils Lake, ND, farmer and business man passed away peacefully surround by his loving family on Sunday morning, Aug. 26, 2018, at his home west of Devils Lake.

Mieciu ‘Matt’ Kostecki, 89, a longtime Devils Lake, ND, farmer and business man passed away peacefully surround by his loving family on Sunday morning, Aug. 26, 2018, at his home west of Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Matt will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Father Steven Wirth celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 3 until 6 p.m. and will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Mieciu Kostecki was born in Nowy Sacz, Poland on Aug. 16, 1929, the son of Jacob and Katarzyna (Niec) Kostecki. He was educated at Popular Grove Country School. Mieciu farmed in rural Devils Lake and operated Matts Repair Shop from the farm doing vehicle and electronic repairs. From 1963 to 1993, Matt operated Universal Electronics on 216 4th Street doing appliance and electronic sales and repair until retiring in 1993. Mieciu was united in marriage to Mary B. Ogorzalek on Jan. 7, 1950, in Irvington, New Jersey. They made their home in Pennsylvania for about a year before returning to North Dakota. Mieciu is survived by; his beloved children, Joseph Kostecki and Barbara Kostecki of Devils Lake; sisters, Janina Jaeger of St. Charles, Mo., and Mary (Darrell) Skramstad of Cushing, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Rose Kostecki, Devils Lake and Anna Ogorzalek, Landsford, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Mieciu was preceded in death by; his wife, Mary; his parents; brother, Julian Kostecki; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence and Al Paskewicz and Dennis Jaeger.
