At 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department was called to a section of U.S. Highway 2 near the former Kmart location to battle a fire that consumed a semi truck, trailer and its straw bales cargo.

At 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department was called to a section of U.S. Highway 2 near the former Kmart location to battle a fire that consumed a semi truck, trailer and its straw bales cargo.

Traffic had to be re-routed for three hours, according to Devils Lake Fire Chief Jim Moe but it took five hours to completely deal with the blaze which remains under investigation.

The truck itself was a total loss. It was owned and driven by Michael Pribyl of Thief River Falls, Minn.
