The next generation of anglers stepped up this past weekend and showed what they were made of as 20-year-old Dylan Nussbaum from St. Mary’s, Penn., won the Cabelas National Walleye Tournament held on Devils Lake Thursday and Friday, July 26 and 27.

He was in fifth place at the end of the day on Thursday.

In all, Nussbaum caught 10 walleyes in the two-day tourney for a total of 55.43 lbs. and he took home a Ranger 1880 boat, motor and trailer, $15,000 cash and an additional $2,926 in Angler Advantage prizes.

As the event drew to a close Suzie Kenner from Devils Lake’s Tourism Office and Chip Leer, tourney host and emcee, made the announcement that the 2019 Cabelas NWT finals will take place on Devils Lake.

Although he and his family drove over 22 hours and traveled more than 1,300 miles, Nussbaum told the Devils Lake Journal that he will be back next year!
