Louise A. Burkhardsmeier, 88, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Minnewaukan, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND.

Louise A. Burkhardsmeier, 88, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Minnewaukan, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. Visitation will begin at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Leeds, ND. Lector will be Louise’s goddaughter, Caye Bednarz. Music will be provided by Patty Cote and Lynne Webster. Casket Bearers for Louise will be Mike, Angie, Ashley and Adam Burkhardsmeier, Brandi and Ron DesMarais, Christopher Adam, Mitch Weed, Mike Grady and Edward Haskell. Louise was born Dec. 24, 1929, to Louis and Mary (Grady) Des Forges in Stanley, ND. She graduated from Leeds High School in 1948 and worked in the Leeds Café where she met her future husband. Louise was united in marriage to Anton ‘Tony’ Burkhardsmeier on Oct. 21, 1950, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Together they raised four children: Cathy, Lou, Mary Jo, and Toni. Louise worked food service all her life as well as various other jobs. They were members of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir and sang Latin high mass. The family moved to Minnewaukan in 1967. She became a cook at the public school from 1977 until her retirement in 1992. After moving to Minnewaukan she became a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she was active in the altar society and was president from 1983-1985 during the Minnewaukan Centennial. In 2004, she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. Family was most important to Louise. She loved canning, gardening, cooking and baking, especially sugar cookies and brownies. She enjoyed camping with her family. She loved watching sports and attending events that her children and grandchildren were in. Louise enjoyed sending cards loaded with stickers to family and friends. Louise is survived by; her children, Cathy Burkhardsmeier, Devils Lake, Lou (Darlene) Burkhardsmeier, Fargo, ND, Mary Jo Burkhardsmeier, Devils Lake and Toni (Brad) Adam, Reynolds, ND; five grandchildren, Brandi (Ron) DesMarais, Ashley Burkhardsmeier, Mike (Angie) Burkhardsmeier, Adam Burkhardsmeier, and Christopher Adam; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Jacob, Isabelle, Sophia and Charlotte DesMarais; and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Richard (Sue) Burkhardsmeier of Roy, UT; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Wayne) Brager of Leeds, Vivian (Ron) Jorgenson of Maple Grove, MN and Beverly (Curtis) Bracken of Devils Lake. She was preceded in death by; her husband, Anton ‘Tony’ Burkhardsmeier; parents, Louis and Mary (Grady) Des Forges; beloved brother, Louis J. Des Forges, Jr. (killed in the battle of Iwo Jima during WWII); sister, Marie Mitzel; brother-in-law, Andrew Mitzel; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Dennis) Grady and Patricia (Gordon) Owens.
