Ernest ‘Phil’ McKay I, 76, of Fort Totten, ND, passed away Saturday morning, June 2, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, ND, in the loving presence of his dear friend and family.

Ernest ‘Phil’ McKay I, 76, of Fort Totten, ND, passed away Saturday morning, June 2, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake, ND, in the loving presence of his dear friend and family. Mass of Christian Burial for Ernest will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 10 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten with Father Charles Leute OP celebrating the Mass. Ernest will be brought home at a later time. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, June 12 from 5 until 10 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7 p.m. The procession to Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fort Totten will leave on Tuesday at 5 p.m. from City Plaza. There are no words to express our loss or what Phil has done in his lifetime that made him who he was. He touched many lives in one way or another. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Phil was a devoted husband and father. He worked at various occupations for the Spirit Lake Tribe to provide for his wife, Phyllis, of 55 years and his 11 Children. Up to the time of his stroke his last occupation was with Spirit Lake Casino and Resort as a Slot Technician for 20 years. He was also an avid dart player. His team ‘The Intruders’ had won many tournaments throughout the years. He loved the outdoors and always working on something to fix. He loved spending time with his children, grands and greats. We were truly blessed with the time we were given. Pallbearers for Phil will be Joel Swinland, Dean Morken, Tobias Mckay, Dustin Mckay, Solomon Peltier, Eronn Mckay, Ernest Mckay II, Kobe Mckay, Rodney Burkhard, Bradley Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers; Aloysuis Cloud, a dear friend who was present at the time of Phil’s passing, Kennedi Mckay, ShyAnne Mckay, Autumn Greene, Veronica Bohrer, Kaylee ‘Red’ Hill, KaeDynce Burkhard, Tucker Burkhard, Ernest Mckay III (AKA Sloane), Good Samaritan Center Nurses and Staff. All of Phil’s family and friends who touched his life/heart during his time on earth. Phil is survived by his wife Phyllis Mckay, Sons: Eronn Mckay, Ernest Mckay II, Erick Mckay, Earland Mckay. Daughters: Cheryl Mckay, Sharon Peltier, Ernesta Davidson, Erlinda Mckay, Danyelle Nelson. Brother Sylvester Mckay. Sister Lois Mckay. 44 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by; his mother and father, Florence and Mike Mckay; son, Elliott Mckay; daughter, Marcella Morken; grandson, Erick Mckay Jr.; brothers, Melvin, Richard, Tim; sisters, Evangeline, Audrey, Viola and many other relatives.
